2023 Vera de Estenas Bobal, 750ml

Bobal is Spain’s third most planted grape, often associated with high yields over high quality. But a handful of dedicated growers are redefining its potential. Vera de Estenas, founded in 1945 by Francisco Martinez Bermell, has long championed bobal, crafting estate wines from 47 hectares of vines in Utiel-Requena. Situated at 800 meters near the Sierra del Remedio mountains, the estate boasts some of Spain’s oldest bobal vines—up to 100 years old. Under the direction of Felix Martinez, the wines now emphasize freshness, character, and great value. This cuvée, made from 50–100-year-old organically farmed vines, was macerated, fermented, and aged entirely in concrete. The result is a vibrant, layered wine with notes of mulberry, blackberry, plum, and pomegranate, accented by cardamom, coriander, and black pepper. Organically grown.
