2020 Baccagnano '52 Fuochi' Sangiovese, 750ml
Azienda Agricola Baccagnano is a winery and agriturismo created by Marco Ghezzi and his family about 10 years ago. Marco decided to leave his previous career in publishing to focus on growing this family business in wine and hospitality. The vineyard, winery, and house are located on a domain built on an ancient stone construction from the thirteenth century. Part of the building, the church, has been preserved as a tasting room. The winery's 7 hectares lay on the first hills of Brisighella, at an altitude of around 100m. The soils are clayey. Romagna’s autochthonous grapes are planted in the vineyard: Sangiovese, Trebbiano, and Albana. The underground cellar of the new winery, built in 2019, helps with natural temperature control. Different types of containers are used to refine the wines. Sangiovese sits in concrete tanks for as much as 6 months before being bottled. Exausted oak barrels are also used for refining part of the wine, and the two are blended based on taste and instinct. Georgian qvevri (terracotta amphorae) are also used for the Albana, which stays in these containers during fermentation and refines in stainless steel tanks before being bottled. - Living Wine
