2017 Maison Valette 'MesdemoiZelles' VDF White, 750ml
Philippe Valette took over his father’s estate in 1992. His father was the first in the region to stop selling grapes to the co-op and bottle his own wine. After the estate was passed down, he took time to carefully convert his vineyards to organics and trained the vines to be farmed without the use of chemicals. He is renowned and respected all over France for the care, focus and knowledge he has for his soils and vines.
Philippe likes to wait for as long as he can to pick the grapes in order to develop maturity on the vines. Thus he crafts wines of extraordinary decadence and complexity. His wines normally spend at least 25 months in older barrels. During this evolutionary time, the wine evolves with the lees and develops savory, delicate almost mushroom-like aromas in the final wines. This wine is a thoughtful Mâconnais wine, with a stoney vibrating center that indefatigably pulls its heady texture and weight back into its own orbit.
