2021 Santuvario 'Lavigna' Rosso, 750ml

Boca is a small 30ha region in the far northwestern corner of Italy, called Alto Piedmont. Alto - means taller and Boca is the highest altitude region in all of Piedmont. This rare example of 100% Croatia comes from a wild amphitheater shaped site on volcanic, basalt soil that dates back to the formation of the Alps. Indigenous to the area, Croatina has Nebbiolo-like finesse and aromatics but Barbera-like silky dark fruit. Before starting Santuvario, caretaker and winemaker, Ivano Barbaglia spent an entire career as a musical instrument repairman. In 2011, Ivano had a small stroke that left him with limited movement in his right hand; no longer able to continue in his line of work, he started tending to his small family plot in Boca with the help of his wife and they now own over 4ha together!
