2023 Wasenhaus Spatburgunder Kanzel, 750ml

A Pinot Noir on limestone clay soil grown on the Ehrenstetter Olberg. The Kanzel is a part of the old Olberg with a slighter more east orientation as the Möhlin, directly on the top of a limestone cliff. This vineyard is a bit colder and less exposed to the sun, half is from a French selection mas­sale planted by Dr. Henrik Mobitz and half from old vines from German clones. Fermentation with 40% whole clusters, with the Germans being left whole and the french destemmed...in the beginning as a carbonic maceration and afterwards in a classic open vat fermentation with some punch downs. Aged in mainly used French oak barrels for 16 months. This is the greatest version of this wine we have encountered - it is always brooding - but in 2023 has a freshness, soil typicity and serious structure to carry everything. -vB
